To (Your Mayor or Town Manager):
(Add School Name) is participating in a very exciting sustainability education opportunity that will educate children on how simple changes to behavior can have a big impact on the future health of our planet. The Waste Reduction Challenge, a free program from Green Education Foundation (GEF), educates millions of from across the country on sustainability best practices and the importance of waste reduction and recycling. (Add School Name) has chosen the week of (dates) to particpate by conducting a Waste-Free Snacks Challenge.
We are hoping that (Add City Name) will demonstrate its support for our students by encouraging the city's employees to bring waste-free lunches and drinks to work during that same week. To join us, ask your employees to pack waste-free lunches, i.e. use reusable drink and food containers during this week to avoid throwing away excess trash, in support of the school, I would greatly appreciate it.
Waste Reduction Challenge Overview
During the week prior to green week, students will be pre-weighing their daily snack trash. During their designated Green Week students will bring their snacks and drinks in reusable snack and drink containers. Students will weigh their classroom waste daily during green week and will compare the weight to the pre-weight total. We are encouraging parents to bring in waste-free lunches to work this week in support of the students and the program. Town employees are requested to bring in waste-free lunches to work this week in support of the students and the program.
After our Waste Reduction Challenge, the school will tally the results of the experiment. Nationwide totals will be posted on the GEF's Waste Reduction Challenge website on Earth Day, April 22.
I would like to personally thank you for informing your staff of this opportunity to support our students in becoming environmental stewards.
Sincerely,
Principal Name
